How to explore and exploit the space is an extremely serious task. Especially in the new century, people began to be more and more interested in the research of Stratospheric Airships. The Ascender airship—part of the ATO plan proposed by JP Aerospace--a folk space research organization in USA, with a unique V-shaped structure—has been lifted up into the stratosphere successfully. Whether it has better characteristic or could represent the new trend of the development of the airship, is worth to be investigated further in the future.We use the method of CFD to analyse the flow field of the V-shap airship and compare the results to the wind tunnel experiments.The main job of this thesis includes the following four parts:1. Estimate the value of drag, lift and moment. According to the value and the goal of research, the wind-tunnel experiment was designed, including the design of the model, selection and connection of the electronic devices. Then finish the experiments and acquire the data we need.2. Build the numerical model and simulate the flow field using CFD method. Make a comparison between the results of CFD and the data of experiment so that the correctness of the simulation could be substantiated.3. Depict the velocity field and pressure field of the flow as well as the development of the vortices. Afterward simply analyse the relationship between aerodynamic character and the structure of vortices.4. Analyse the effect of different shapes to the aerodynamic attribute of the flow field, then conclude the advantage of the V-shaped airship compared to the traditional shape one.
