W-shaped boiler is a more common power plant boiler used for low-volatile coal combustion. W shape flame burning technology is used for the fire and burning-out of the low-volatile coal. However, due to the use of coal market operation in China, power plant can not burn a single coal, usually mixed coal. In this case, the boiler burns different coal with the original designed may result in combustion problems on safety and economic. Therefore, it is particularly necessary to monitor the internal combustion of the boiler. The boiler internal combustion status is mainly manifested in the temperature overall level and distribution. Therefore, it is particularly necessary to use a real-time system to monitor the internal temperature of boiler.The author's group has been research for the three-dimensional temperature measurement technology of utility boilers and industrial heating boiler for a long time. This technology has been used in some tangentially pulverized coal utility boiler, and won the Geneva International Invention Expo Special Awards Assembly in 2009. However, the temperature detection system has not yet been set in the W-shaped boiler applications, and no more than the 600MW coal-fired units on a large-scale application.The object of research is Hanfeng Power Plant 2 # units in Heibei of China with the capacity of 660MW, using W shape combustion technology, burning anthracite and lean coal with a mixture of coal. And Hanfeng Power Plant 2 # units had some serious problem of combustion. The paper introduces the overview of Hanfeng Power Plant generating units, and gives three-dimensional temperature field monitoring and control system hardware configuration, testing theory and software design processes and so on. And then by using different testing method and giving the boiler internal combustion conditions to find the combustion problem and relative reasons. Finally, through the transfer test and variable wind stress test, combined with the results of temperature measurement, some suggestions have been given to optimize the combustion of the boiler.Compared through experiments and testing results, it is proved that the three-dimensional temperature field monitoring system can accurately detect the temperature distribution trends of boiler, which plays an important role in guiding optimization of boiler combustion and laid a good foundation on the introduction of control systems based on the RES to enhance economic efficiency. At the same time, it also points out that the current problems of temperature measurement and improves methods, which plays a great role in promoting the three-dimensional temperature field in a broader field of application.
