In this paper, the feasibility of Solar-powered water heating on south and west wall is studied based on the solar energy resource after the analysis of weather, energy supplying and the heating situation in winter in the region of city Wuhan.The study mainly includes: distribution of solar radiation energy on the walls of different orientation; the energy consumption of the Studio; the calculation and determination of the area of solar energy collector; the analysis of performance of the Solar-powered water heating system.The paper takes the ecological simulation software as a tool to do the modeling and simulation of the heating analysis in winter on the'Demonstrational project of renewable-zero energy consumption technology application on architecture, HUST'. The paper firstly calculated the thermal load variation versus month or day after some analysis of all factors that influence it and also the distribution of solar radiation energy on the walls of different orientation by which the theoretical area of solar energy collector needed on each wall to satisfy the heating requirement individually can be determined. The east and west walls are the main concerns in the study for the fact that they are the only valid orientations to dispose solar collector because of the installations of devices on other surfaces of the studio, especially the south wall and the roof. The last part of the paper focused on the analysis of performance, e.g. the temperature improvement in the studio and others which provides a reference for Solar-powered water heating system design, especially for the applications of on non-sun facing surfaces disposed solar collectors.The collector in the heating system is flat-plate typed and under floor air conditioning is used. The system contains no electrical devices which means it's non-energy consumed, non-pollution and low-expense compared to other ways of heating in the region which provides a suitable way of heating in the region of WUHAN.
