The viscoelastic damper as a kind of effective passive device, mainly relys on the shear hysteretic performance of viscoelastic material to increase the dampering of structure and to reduce the effect of structure dynamic response.The mechanical property of the common viscoelastic damper is affected by environmental temperature, incentive frequency and strain amplitude three factors. Therefore it is defective for its mechanical property. When designs energy dissipation structures, using common viscoelastic dampers as energy dissipation components, its mechanical property can produce certain deviation for the structural design of the results.A new viscoelastic damping material, whose mechanical property not considered the influence of environmental temperature and incentive frequency, this paper compares the dynamic mechanical property of new viscoelastic damper which adopts the new viscoelastic damping material with mechanical property of common viscoelastic damper dynamic. Shows it is more precise when designs energy dissipation structures useing new viscoelastic damper as energy dissipation components.Compared to previous method of evenly setting dampers in energy dissipation structures, and some complex optimized design theories about energy dissipation structures, this paper designs the energy dissipation structure by the idea of"Select Layer and Layout". Examples are given to show, in energy dissipation structures which adopt new viscoelastic dampers, it is simple and convenient by the design idea of"Select Layer and Layout".Near ten years, Performance Based Seismic Design was gradually people concerned, Direct Displacement-Based Seismic Design belongs to Performance Based Seismic Design in nature, takes the target displace -ment as design variables, pays attention to the realization of the target displacement,That is how to design, makes the given target displacement to be achieved in earthquake of design level. In this paper an improved direct displacement-based seismic design method was proposed. This method combining the design idea of"Select Layer and Layout"designs energy dissipation structures which adopt these new viscoelastic dampers and gives the direct displacement-based design procedure about energy dissipation structures with new viscoelastic dampers. Proposes comparatively complete practical method about energy dissipation structures.On the basis of above study, aiming at different fortifiable target, designs these examples of steel framework, chesks structures by the finite element software SAP2000, design process shows that this design method is feasible.
