The natural environment in Qinghai province is so harsh that many of the concrete buildings there are seriously eroded, causing academics and engineers to call more attention to the prominent durability problems with concrete buildings. The keys to solving the durability problem with concrete lies in effectively preventing and mitigating the affects of various destructive factors. Extensive research and efforts have concentrated on this concrete durability issue over the past several decades, however these efforts have encountered countless difficulties and have failed to find a solution, thus drawing more attention to this issue.Based on current high-performance concrete research in both China and abroad, these studies have concentrated on technology channels and matching parameters. In order to improve the durability of concrete, namely the function that prevents concrete from long-term corrosion and damage by the environment, and ensure the ability for normal use and an integrated appearance, this experiment has prepared two kinds of high-performance concrete -- C65 and C80. Their durability is also tested by the performance index. To simulate the special natural environment characteristics of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,anti-freeze testing, an anti-permeability test, and a fight-saline erosion test were conducted during the experiment. By testing the durability of the above-mentioned high performance concrete, we were able to analyze the cause of high performance concrete destruction and the factors which effect its durability. From the test results, we learned that two kinds of high-performance concrete have many advantages: good anti-permeability and anti-freeze, good anti-corrosion, high compressive strength, good workability, high elastic modulus, smaller drying shrinkage deformation, good durability. This research also allowed us to explore other problems with concrete such as short service life under the harsh plateau environment.
