As composite laminate is widely applied on aeronautic field, the possibility of impact on composite laminate structures will be increased. More and more researchers have paid attentions to the impact resistance of composite. To increasing the safety of composite application, it is necessary to investigate the mechanism of composite structure impact resistance, based on both theory and experiment, to analyze the experiments and to calculate the structure, its strength and behavior, so to improve the ability of resisting impact of composite and orient engineering design of composite structures. This paper carried impact test for fiber reinforced composite laminate by air-gun. The critical velocity of passing though the laminate was found. The damage situation was analyzed, and fiber breakage and delaminating, which were the main failure mode, were found. A numerical simulation method of impact test for composite laminate was built and applied to numerical calculation for the test by ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Energy data during impact process are obtained. According to numerical results, some influencing factors of resisting impact behavior were analyzed such as speed, layer angle and staking sequence of composite laminate, the length of impact object. The calculated results are accord with test results. Based on the numerical simulation, staking sequence of composite laminate was optimized by genetic algorithm, and the optimized staking sequence and energy loss value were obtained. The test results make certain reference to research on resistance of impact about composite laminate. And a useful method of simulating the impact resistance of composite was provided.
