With the development of modern industry, the gear transmission performance has become an increasingly important demand. Under high-speed and heavy-loaded conditions, it is necessary to ensure the stability and reliability of gear system, but also as far as possible to control its vibration and noise. At the same time, the profile modification and crowning can not only effectively reduce the vibration and noise of gear system, but also greatly increase the carrying capacity of gear system. For aeronautic gear reducer, the gear tooth profile is modified or crowned based on experience and theoretical analysis. In this article, a detail introduction on gear profile modification and crowning at home and abroad is performed. In accordance with existing gear profile modification and crowning principles and formulas, the gear profile modification calculation software is developed by using MATLAB's GUI module. For the CL-100 gear test machine, the gears used for testing are designed and processed, and the noise of the gear system are measured for comparing and analyzing the effects of gear profile modification. In this paper, APDL language of ANSYS is used to establish a contact model of a gear pair. Appropriate amount of profile modification is got for the ideal involute cylindrical gear, and the contact stress is analyzed before and after profile modification. Because the gear profile modification can effectively reduce errors caused by tooth deformation and their own tooth profile error, thus it can control the error excitation of the gear system. Dynamic analysis of the gear system is made. The fourth-order Runge-Kutta numerical integration method is carried out for solving nonlinear dynamic equations, and for the analysis of the error excitation item of the dynamics equation. The impact of profile modification on transmission performance is discussed.
