The suspension of axial magnetic bearing is affected by the added non-magnetic metal support ring in the process of structure improvement. The influence of the electromagnetic properties of the axial magnetic bearing caused by non-magnetic metal ring using eddy current theory and finite element method has been studied. Firstly, the mathematical model of the support ring based on the electromagnetic field theory is established to analyze the electromagnet's magnetic intensity changes of the axial magnetic bearing. And then the whole magnetic circuit of the axial magnetic bearing is analyzed. The magnetic circuit of the axial bearing using the finite element method combined with electromagnetic coupling theory has been analyzed. Furthermore, the magnetic circuit of the axial magnetic bearing is analyzed on the basis of electromagnetic coupling theory in ANSYS. The results show that the magnetic induction in the air gap directly relating to the suspension characteristics decreases with the increase of the excitation signal frequency.In the end, experiments are carried out to validate the influence of the non-magnetic ring located in the axial magnetic bearing. Experimental results indicate that the carrying capacity of the axial magnetic bearing with non-magnetic metal ring is lower compared to the former structure. What is more, the carrying capacity decreases with the increase of the signal exciting frequency.This work provides a reference for the design of high-efficiency axial magnetic bearing.
