The scale and heating capacity of central heating are increasing continually following the encouraging policy for central heating in China. And it has great potential and possesses well prospect for optimization operation of steam pipeline network. However, it is not permitted to do a lot of industrial research through installing many measure points because of the productive process of manufacturer and the structural features of steam pipeline network. So it is a necessary and effective way to build mathematical models based on the character of pipeline or apply related simulation software to get the operational parameters for pipeline design, manage optimization and reasonable condensate drain.The development of a thermo-hydraulic model of steam pipeline network based on flow and heat transfer characteristic is presented in this paper. The method was applied to steam pipeline network of Tianjin Airport Industry Park. And Synergies gas is used for solving the model. The main works before simulation are data-base collection, topological structure building and boundary-condition parameters input. The computed data are compared with measured data in order to ensure that the model is correct.The paper presented simulation results about different operational conditions to analyse mass loss and heat loss of the whole steam pipeline. For example, to invest the quantitative relationship between mass and heat loss of steam pipeline network and steam heat load, main pipe diameter, pressure and degree of superheat of heat source, structure of pipeline and seasonal variation. The matching station of pressure between multiply heat sources to avoid mismatch of pressures for main heat source and pitch peak heat source. Operation states of different zones of the whole pipeline network is analysed in order to find the worst zone of the whole pipeline. The pipeline network capacity is sufficient or not if there is a new user located end of the pipeline. The mass and heat loss due to different distances from heat sources and heat loads for heat users.The main reasons for large mass and heat loss are find through analysis of the simulation results. The main reasons are as follows: (1) the heat load of the whole network is too small, the pipe diameter is too large and so is the low steam velocity; (2) the pressure of pitch peak heat source is a little higher; (3) cyclic network of pipes is not suitable take the current heat load into account; (4) the range and location of measuring instrument do not conform to the standard. Some suggestion in pipeline planning is supplied aimed at (1). And for other reasons, the operational and reasonable solutions are supplied for the steam pipeline network. The whole work in this paper is combined with actual operation of the steam pipeline network of Tianjin Airport Industry Park. Therefore, the whole analysis is of great value for operation and regulation in practice.
