The hydropower station intake plays a very important role in the safe operation of hydropower station. As the complexity of size and force situation, using traditional structural and materials mechanics method to calculate is inaccurate, therefore, it is necessary to use finite element structural analysis to the hydropower station intake. The current finite element stucture simulation analysis of station intake usually uses solid elements, but the station intake includes the trash rack frame, using the solid element to simulate is difficult to reflect the bending and shear properties of frame structure, and the analysis result is affected by mesh division, which makes it have some uncertainty; in the application of solid element simulation results for placing the stell bar , the selected section is generally indludes the maximum stress, and the phenomena of stress concentration exist ofen causes the high levels of reinforcement. This paper will investigate the feasibility of using beam and solid elements to simulate the hydropower station intake.The paper is based on Wu Nong Long Hydropower Station Intake of Yunnan Lancang River. First, single used solid element to carry out the finite element static and dynamic structural analysis result. Second, using beam elements to simulate the frame structure and solid element to simulate the retral tower structure, application of freedom coupling and constraint equations methods to solve the problems of connection between beam and solid element, carry out the finite element static and dynamic structural analysis result. Then, by comparing the results of the two methods, explore the feasibility of using beam and solid elements to simulate the hydropower station intake, point out that using the result of solid element simulation to place the steel bar exists problems, raise a point that a reasonable reinforcement under the superposition of static and dynamic results must consider the direction of different internal forces of static and dynamic results. The last but not at least, the paper finishes the structural analysis program selection of the hydropower station intake.
