Research For The Morphology Of Traditional Dwelling Space In Turpan Areas

Turpan is north-south and east-west traffic in Xinjiang region. Early from ancient times, it is the multi-cultural area in Xinjiang. The characteristics of morphology of traditional dwellings in Turpan are quite different from the mainland residentials' that embody the traditional production and accumulated life experience in Turpan areas. They not only reflect the standard and technology of creating architecture of the Turpan areas, but also reflect the local geography, custom and culture. As the typical example that reflect the good relationship with the nature, the traditional dewellings in Turpan areas play an indispensable role in their sustainable development. The current academic field not have much study of traditional dwellings in Turpan areas, and for various reasons, these "cultural heritage of the carrier" have been destroied in varying degree,and with the trend of accelerated loss. The research on the morphology of traditional dwellings in Turpan areas is not only the requirement for protecting the unique urban regions, but also the requirement for the continuation of the regional historical context, and enhance living sense of identity and belonging needs of the urban residents.The thesis take the natural environment and historical and cultural environment of the Turpan areas as background, do a comprehensive, systematic, detailed analysis and study on the traditional dewellings of Turfan areas from the four levels that are whole, group, monomer, and detail. While take efforts to seize the intrinsic link between the four levels. Firstly, the materials on the local traditional houses were collected, recorded, and then through research on the local natural environment and cultural environment, then illustrate the interactions between the local residential space form and the natural environmrnt and the human environment. Then bases on the previous studies, analyzes the basic characteristics spatial form of the traditional houses in Turpan areas. Analyzes the formation and distribution of traditional villages from the overall level then analyzes the traditional courtyard layout from the group level. Illustrate the layout of the main unit of life form and its structure, analyzes the residential single space form from the single level, summarizes the important feature of space and composition rules of the traditional houses. Then analyzes the traditional building materials and residential construction technology and building decoration from the level of detail. Finally, the article analyzes space residential development status and problems of traditional dewellings of Turpan areas and proposes principles and measures to develop residential space in morden society: meet the everyday needs of local residents; inherit the historical and cultural heritage, reflect the local characteristics; with the protection and development in parallel; with urban development strategies and actively promote urbanization. Finally, the paper uses the contemporary case of residential space to discuss how to continue the tradition and local culture in the local residential space. The article hope to use those discussions to urge the local residents to pay more attention to the environment they live. At the same time, urge the local residents to have more cognitive examination and self-examination about their national culture.
