Brake plays an important role on Vehicle safety and reliability of parking. In the case of long time braking, the brake temperature will rise and cause instability decreased of the friction coefficient, thus braking torque will be reduced. In serious case, it will cause loss of braking ability, and even lead to accident. While braking process is a complex thermal - mechanical coupling process, the thermal stress may cause the radial crack of brake drum surface, if it is not controlled, when the crack extend to a certain degree, it may lead to fracture failure of brake drum .Thus thermal recession analysis and thermal-mechanical coupling analysis of drum brake is of great significance.Base on heat transfer and thermodynamics, this paper analyzes the brake process of car. Using the software of ABAQUS, the paper establish heat fade model of drum brake, calculate the maximum temperature in various braking condition of the vehicle to predict brake torque recession. At the same time, building thermal-mechanical coupling model of drum brake to calculate the temperature field and thermal stress field of brake drum as vehicles in braking process.Base on finite difference method and use the software of MATLAB, the paper establish an integrated system. The system can define the vehicle parameters, the type of brake, brake structure parameters. Based on these definitions, it can proceed the thermal recession analysis. The result remains consistent with finite element model.
