Suezmax Crude Oil Tanker is one of five main ship forms in the world oil tanker market. It will be increasingly needed in Europe market in the future, because it is the largest type of tanker to get across Suez Canal.Common Structural Rules for Double Hull Oil Tankers(CSR) have been put into effect on Apr. 1st, 2006. It is the first oil tanker building standard to be consolidated by IACS, which will give big impact on structural design of Oil Tankers. The research work in this thesis is based on the 159000 dwt Suezmax Oil Tanker. In order to meet the requirements of longitudinal strength, local strength and buckling strength, many optimizations and analyses for the hull structurual details have been carried out. The optimization aspects cover the hull geometry, structure scantling, cargo hold arrangement, longitudinal spacing and section type, and high tensile steel's usage.Furthermore, many studies on CSR's special requirements about loading case, rules design, longitudinal strength, ultimate strength and FEM have been carried out. And the whole ship structure design and analysis for a Suezmax crude oil tanker based on CSR rules is performed and compared with original design in detail The characteristics of CSR rules and its influences on design of this kind of ship are also discussed and summarized.
