In the transmission lines, Socket clevis is connected suspension clamp and insulator chain with the effect of fixing wire and insulation, which performance will directly affects the safety of transmission lines. It has important significance for transmission lines development of China’s nowdays. With the development of transmission line voltage grade, the performance require of socket clevis is higher and higher. So we have to improve the performance of socket clevis to adapt the development of transmission lines.The research on stress value and stress distribution of socket clevis is a complex process, which contains test, information collection, data processing, simulation, improved design and check etc. With the development of the finite element analysis method, this problem can solved by using computing techology and test method. This paper is based on the research object of high-performance socket clevis, so the main content involves:1The structure of socket clevis is analysed firstly, and its stress and strain fields’ distribution is also measured by using strain electro-measurement when it works.2The features of transmission line is studied secondly, thus the line wire is simplified a single cable structure, and the differential equation of wire single cable structure is also established. Then, the socket clevis’four actual working loads are calculated though parabola theoretical method combined with a large span transmission line, under the four work environments of the line wire which is no ice or wind road, no wind but ice load, no ice but wind load, ice and wind road.3A three-dimensional model of socket clevis is established, then using ANSYS Workbench finite element software as an analysis tool to set cutting, material, contact, meshing, boundary conditions etc. The correct FEA model of socket clevis is set up by comparing with the test results and computational ones, then the stress distribution is obtained with actual working load. On the basis of this, the structure of socket clevis is optimized.4Accordin to the test and finite element analysis results, the weak links and work characteristics of socket clevis are obtained. On this basis, the structure improvement design and material design research are also investigated to get a new socket clevis. The results show that the new structure can not only improve its strength, but also reduce the weight of structure.5Finally, the factors of affecting the fatigue strength are studied for improving the strength of socket clevis by understanding the theory of fatigue life. Based on the fatigue test of new socket clevis material, the fatigue life of socket clevis is checked the improved to verify the improvement effect.
