An integrated natural gas compressor is the key equipment in industrial production, being widely used in petroleum and natural gas production, chemical industry, mineral industry and etc. A condition monitoring system for an integrated natural gas compressor has been designed in this paper based on PLC, intelligent sensors and touchable panel, in order to overcome the defects of conventional way. using local instruments and contactors/relays to monitor a compressor’s condition. Besides, fault diagnosis for a compressor’s air valve has been studied in this paper based on wavelet packet analysis for vibration signals, instead of for temperature and pressure signals. Vibration characteristics and common faults of a reciprocating compressor have been analyzed based on explanation of its structure and working principle in the paper. Afterword, an overall design of a compressor monitoring system has been designed according to the technological requirements. The condition monitoring system of an integrated natural gas compressor contains hardware design and software programming. In hardware design, the monitoring parameters and technical indices have been analyzed at firstly; then, related hardware selected; finally, schematic diagram for condition monitoring system designed. After hardware design is finished, software programming is carried out. The software design mainly includes PLC logic control program and touchable panel configuration so as to realize the logic control of the integral natural gas compressor and human-machine interaction function. Finally, simulating and debugging of the condition monitoring system have been completed, which proves that the monitoring system is able to take a well control of the compressor and handle the fluid fault of the integral natural gas compressor.
