In today’s society, rational development and utilization has reached a maturestage of water resources, but with the increase of population, the deterioration of theenvironment, causing serious damage to water resources, supply pressure surge. Theproblem of water resources is a matter of survival of all life on earth body. If notaddressed, will seriously affect the people’s production and life. At present, theacademic circles on the sustainable use of water resources in the deep research. AsChina’s central and western part of karst rocky desertification area water resourcessustainable use little research. According to the Kunming region of Yunnan Provinceas an example, a comprehensive evaluation of the statistics and calculation method ofkarst rocky desertification area water footprint, calculation and analysis of the2002-2011during the last ten years the water footprint of Kunming city and the dynamicchange of the total. And the per capita water footprint, water footprint, yuan GDPwater footprint, water resources pressure index and water self-sufficiency rate of fourindicators of evaluation of sustainable utilization of water resources in Kunming City,the regional water resources sustainable evaluation index and water resourceconsumption and the changes of the situation. The indicators can clearly reflect theuse of sustainable utilization of water resources in research area, which is the basis tostudy the changes of water footprint and its major influencing factors. Finally,research on Water Footprint Theory in the application of karst rocky desertification.Problems of this form, for the current Kunming karst rocky desertification area waterresources distribution characteristics, the development and change of the givenpreliminary study. Future of development and utilization of water resources havemostly unfavorable factors. Let the water resources in the area of sustainabledevelopment, it needs to research in theory and practice more.
