Guardrail cleaning car is a kind of environmental special vehicle products mixing together with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and gas. Among them, Guardrail cleaning device is its key components. The efficiency and quality of the design process directly affects the design and production cycle, usage results and the economic benefit of the enterprise. With fully analysis and research of design knowledge in the guardrail cleaning device, this paper compares an application of the variant design method based on knowledge in the design process, a detailed study of the knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation and knowledge reasoning and so on, and a development of its rapidness design prototype system that is combined with UG/NX 3-d modeling and VS2010 language programming software. The main research content of this paper is as follows:(1) According to the design characteristics of the guardrail cleaning device, the function of the rapidness design system, the acquisition of design knowledge and knowledge using is elaborated,in order to improve the design efficiency and quality and reduce the waste of manpower and material resources.(2) According to the characteristics of design knowledge in guardrail cleaning device, the combined knowledge representation is proposed. It means that expresses instance knowledge with ontology and rules knowledge with production rule, in order to improve the comprehensive and effective of knowledge expression. On this basis, this paper establishes the knowledge base based on the establishment of modular and parametric method.(3) For customer needs and problems in the process of product design, this paper proposes a hybrid variant design technology based on case-based reasoning and rule reasoning, which is applied to the rapidness design system of guardrail cleaning device. In case retrieval stage, the entire process is divided into two stages of qualitative attribute and quantitative attribute retrieval, and this paper gives the corresponding similarity matching algorithm to improve the efficiency and accuracy of case retrieval. In instance modification phase, add the rule of cleaning device into the modification process.(4) In view of the theory which is put forward, establish the rapidness design system of Guardrail cleaning device based on UG/NX development platform with the secondary development tools and Microsoft Visual C++.
