The barrel life of rapid-fire weapon related to the life of fighters, so the research issues of barrel life is critical and serious. In this paper, a model for the study of rapid-fire machine gun, take full account of the relevant parameters, which affected barrel ablation volume, mainly study the following points:(1)Based on previous studies, this paper discussed the failure mechanism of the barrel, analysis the failure factors and symbol of barrel, and summarized several empirical formula of barrel erosion calculation.(2)Taking a certain type of rapid-fire machine gun barrel as the research object and using ANSYS software to build the body tube finite element model of the barrel. During the launch, we simulated the transient temperature and research the changes in the temperature field. By simulation we obtained the distribution of barrel temperature field.(3) Based on the Monte Carlo method, stochastic finite element method and sensitivity analysis, taking advantage of the response surface method. After several Monte Carlo simulation, we could get the output amount of the barrel erosion and the sensitivity relationship between barrel erosion amount and barrel parameters.(4)Based on Orthogonal design method,we obtained the experimental data of barrel ablation volume. Using the barrel parameters affecting the ablation volume and according to neural networks and genetic algorithms, we could use the experimental data which obtained by orthogonal test as training data to train the neural network, then use neural network instead of simulation software to predict the ablation amount. In the end we combined with genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters, by contrast the optimization date of barrel ablation amount, we received the conclusion that the method can effectively improve the barrel life.
