Aimed at the shortcoming that harmonic gear drive with involute profile has stress concentration in root of a tooth, small meshing range and low carrying capacity, a kind of new tooth profile is proposed. Parameterized design for tooth profile of flexspline (FS) and circular spline (CS), analysis of meshing performance, design of hobs and shaping cutters are researched in this paper.According to theoretical derivation of conjugate profiles, the technology line of solving harmonic gear drive with new tooth profile was formulated. Firstly, taking circle arc-tangent line-circle arc as tooth profile of hob in normal plane, tooth profile of FS could be solved by tooth profile normal method. Secondly, tooth profile of CS could be worked out by envelope method. Thirdly, based on tooth profile of CS, tooth profile of shaping cutter could be solved by tooth profile normal method. Based on Matlab_GUI, parameterized design software with interactive visualization interface was written. Meshing performance was analyzed from different aspects, including of contact ratio, meshing backlash and maximum meshing depth, carrying capacity and so on. Except it, how radial distortion coefficient and modification coefficient influence meshing performance was researched.In the course of solving conjugate profiles, deformation function of FS got by finite element method was proposed. The error between it and cosine function was analyzed, and the difference between tooth profile of CS by two ways was prepared. At the same time, tooth profile of CS in different surface at the axis direction was discussed, which provide reference for the fabrication procedure of CS.Considering manufacture conveniently and quantity production, to reduce the number of hobs and shaping cutters, whether they can be used universally was discussed. Aimed at different type of harmonic gear manufactured by the same cutter, the meshing performance would be analyzed.At last, the conclusion of experiments shows that new tooth profile is superior to involute in many aspects, for example machinery efficiency, extreme load and torsional stiffness.
