As military technology develops fast, the miniaturization of millimeter wave detectors adopted in small-caliber ammunitions has become a popular research. Small-caliber ammunitions fusing system applies Linear Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (LFMCW) to acquire velocity and distance information of the target when detecting typical ground targets, such as tank and fortification. On request of above, this paper addresses researches on application of ground detection, small-size and low-cost of T/R module of millimeter wave detectors. On the basis of LFMCW radar measuring velocity and distance of target, two significant parameters, modulation frequency deviation and modulation period, are worked out. Combining the demand of actual application, analysis and related computation are used for the detection of point target and surface target to figure out emission power and noise factor of T/R module.Based on the parameters, analysis is completed on the comparison of multiple T/R modules options, with consideration of volume, cost and actual close-distance detection. Eventually, hybrid ring rather than circulator is used. Active components of T/R module such as frequency mixer, frequency multiplier and LNA are analyzed and MMIC selected. As for passive components, for instance, microstrip-waveguide transition, hybrid ring and gold binding wire, they are simulated and optimized by HFSS. The whole process of T/R module simulation, optimization and design is based on ADS.On request of actual usage, PCB board of the T/R module and shielding box are designed and manufactured. The whole system successfully passed the examination and can be put into use.
