For the problem of low firing accuracy and being easy to shoot the wrong target of traditional bullets for its susceptibility to environmental factors, the optical system for the seeker of smart bullet was designed and analyzed based on the analysis and summarization of the research progress over nearly 20 years both in domestic and overseas.According to the basic characteristics of smart bullets, the detection principle of smart bullets was analyzed and its guidance scheme, namely Semi-Active Laser (SAL) guidance was adopted. The detecting element was the four quadrant detector and the effect on the precision of detecting caused by the facular area on four quadrant detector was analyzed. A SAL optical system suitable for bullets was designed. The instantaneous field, effective focal length, the ratio of obstruction of the optical system and so on were analyzed. The optical system design was optimized and simulation analyzed by using the ZEMAX software. The imaging quality of this optical system and the influence of light energy center deviation on the precision of smart bullet are analyzed. The system error of this smart bullet was obtained by simulation and calculation. Stray light of the system was analyzed, and the design method of Lens hood was given. At last, the ability of the optical system to suppress the stray light was simulated with optical ray trace software.Results of analysis and simulation showed that the detection range of smart bullets was much larger than conventional bullets’, which could meet the detection demands. The light spot diameter of designed optical system equaled to the radius of the detector. It had a good image quality; Stray light analysis showed that after adding in Lens hood, PST of the optical systems value reached a magnitude of 10"10, that could meet the needs of the engineering projects; the design scheme of the optical system could provide a theoretical basis and reference for the next smart bullet entity prototype trial-manufacture.
