Nowadays, hoisting machinery has already been widely used in various kinds of industries, which is an integral part of the operation process for production, transportation or other fields. Hook is a kind of fetch device for lifting machinery, which is relatively used much more than other device and bears a full load in process of lifting, its working performance can directly lead to whether it could operate safely and reliably. Therefore, this paper aims to do some research about the loading and strength of crane hook.Firstly, static strength calculation software of hook is programmed with Visual Basic Language, which is convenient for actual designers to get stress condition of selected hook under certain loading; then the paper conducts the static strength analysis for different kinds of hook with elastic bend beam theory and finds out the relation among hook number, strength grade and institutional working level; this part compares three kinds of different cross-section shape of hook and provides a certain reference in process of design; then the part conducts mechanical properties analysis in practical application according to ultimate bearing capacity method, and improves its lifting condition at some extent, which makes it more fully and effectively used for hook.Secondly, the paper conducts the reliability analysis and research according to mechanical reliability theory, amends the relationship between reliability value and safety factor of hook, then divides working-level, safety factor and reliability, forming hook’s reliability class. All these work has laid a good foundation for hook’s future use and optimization design. At last, the remaining life of hook in a different working level and stress spectrum was estimated based on fatigue cumulative damage theory, which provides theory basis for safe use of hook.
