Small Architecture And Big Design - Experimental Research And Practice Of Contemporary Micro - Architecture Design

In the field of contemporary architecture, the research for Micro-architecture started very late, and it has been used as a marginal issue to discuss. In the recent years, these topics such as "Microlife", "Microchat(Wechat)", "Microblog" spread widely, "Micro-architecture" has gradually been coming into the public, and taken attention to the design community. Based on this phenomenon, this dissertation took "micro-architecture" for the object, and are summarized from the theoretical and practical aspects of contemporary micro-architecture design by the research methods such as book references, on-site surveys, case studies, Micro-architecture design and conduct of the study exploration. In the first three chapters of the dissertation, it defined the concept, history and the main types of the micro-architecture; Then it summarized the form, culture and technology of the micro-architecture; It introduced the representative of the contemporary micro-architecture designer——Richard Horden and his TUM studio and his experimental design ideas and work. The practice was in the fourth chapter,’Nanjing University of the Arts "Express station" design’ is the subject to experimental design. Its site analysis, concept, forms generation, cultural integration, technical support and results expression conducted this experiments. Finally, this dissertation concluded that, this experimental research and practice "small building and great design" would brings some valuable inspiration and reference for the micro-architecture design.
