In recent years, the development of wireless communications in terms of mobility support is very fast, and a substantial increase in intelligent vehicles, the rapidly growing popularity of motor vehicles and the urgent need of transportation systems for information technology, VANETs appears. Against this background, we studied routing protocols of VANETs in this paper.VANET is a self-organizing wireless multi-hop network. Regardless of the time and the location, you can quickly build a mobile communication network between vehicles. Each node is equal status and can move freely. VANETs can provide assistance driving, accident warning, distributed traffic information, entertainment and information services and other applications. However, in VANETs, the vehicle nodes move fast, network topology changes frequently, resulting in an unstable communication link, therefore, the transmission quality of data packet and the reliability of routing protocols have been greatly affected. These characteristics also make traditional wireless mobile communication network routing protocols can’t get good performance in VANETs.This paper analyzes the current research and existing VANETs routing protocols, categorizes them, introduces the ideas and methods of important agreements adopted in each category, and points out the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of protocol performance and the problems need to solve. Improved V2P agreement, proposed a based infrastructure assisted protocol——IV2P (Improved vehicle-to-passenger). The agreement introduces roadside units to help to find a vehicle and forward travel news, Protocol with wireless and wireline communications hybrid approach to ensure the stability and effectiveness of the link, also reduces the delay of data transfer. In this paper, for protocols are compared by simulation experiments in c++ language, and the experimental scene is a real map. Experimental mainly comprised the successful delivery rate of packets, and the average waiting time of passengers, etc. of IV2P and V2P routing protocols. Simulation results show that, IV2P routing protocol based infrastructure assisted both achieve a higher success rate of data packet transmission andthe shorter waiting time of passengers.
