In recent years, Hydraulic excavator has been used more and more widely in the field of construction engineering. However, how to reduce fuel consumption, reduce weight and improve product safety performance, is a big problem for each manufacturer to enhance the market competitiveness. Adopting topology optimization technology to perform structural analysis and do simulation calculation for newly developed parts is good to ameliorate the design of product and cut down the development period. The optimization design for stick is very little. In view of this, the paper takes working device with stick of the wheel excavator as the research object, conducting the analysis and optimization design of stick structure.The paper describes the present situation of the optimization design of the excavators’ working equipment and the method of structural optimization. The structure and working characteristics of the folding stick are also introduced.Two kinds of dangerous working conditions are researched and selected based on the design requirements and working characteristics of excavator working device. On the basis of engineering mechanics, mathematical model of the articulated point of the stick in the two kinds of dangerous working conditions is comprehensively analyzed and set up. The load of the stick in two kinds of dangerous conditions is also calculated.The mathematic model of the stick for topology optimization is to take its minimum flexibility as objective function and take optimized cubage as the constraint function. The3 D model established in UG is leaded to Hyperworks. The stick is topology optimized and calculated by using Hyperworks. According to the manufacture processing guidelines of parts, the optimization result is disposed. A new stick of more reasonable structure and better performance is obtained.Finally, the stick structure is researched with the statics analysis based on ANSYS.The correctness and reliability of the optimization results has been verified. The result shows that the weight of the optimized stick has been reduced 7.53% by contrasting the weight of stick before optimizing. It achieves the goal of lightening the weight of the stick.The process and result of this research provides reference and guidance for transforming and optimizing other products in the enterprise. It has not only solved practical problems but also explained how to design the excavator stick with lighter weight by using topology optimization method. It provides new design method for developing other types to enhance the standard of product design in the enterprise.
