A Study On The Conceptual Building

Conceptual Architecture is a senior-class architectural subject designed and tutored by Prof.Ge Ming in School of Architecture in Southeast University. With this subject,Prof.Ge leads students into a journey of exploring and expand the boundary of what architecture is by translating concepts into real architectural structures with various narrative and making practice forms.This thesis based on those practice tries to introduce concepts,forms and prototypes ever appeared in Conceptual Architecture. At the same time,Conceptual Architecture could also be seen as a form of modern art, discussing artistic issues just as John hejduk did in his teaching. Therefore, Conceptual Architecture was actually influenced by the mysterious structures designed by John at the very beginning and slowly discover their own way to creat architecture.The thesis contains four parts: PartⅠbegins with John Hejduk’s creative structures to see the reason why Prof.Ge inspired by him. PartⅡfocus on the body concepts engaging with space and mentality in a new way. PartⅢ talks about the modern art. Since Conceptual Architecture has been an special existence of art,this part mainly focuses on the way Prof.Ge thinks and works with a total new perspective of it.PartⅣ explains the evolution of modernity in modern architecture,emphasizing the charm of Conceptual Architecture within such a long journey of practice.
