Heterogeneous space, as the continuation and development of traditional orthogonal space, has experienced a process from simple to complex and from minority to majority. The generation of heterogeneous space mainly due to people’s desire for free space. With the improvement of construction technology and the mass aesthetic level, traditional orthogonal space has become gentle and tortuous, architectural space has been endowed with a new life as well. Heterogeneous space now stands at the forefront of the contemporary aesthetics because of its unique style, and has become a new mark of our city.Analyze the generation of heterogeneous space, you’d find more and more architects were no longer confined to stereotypes of modernist architecture from Le Corbusier. They realized that a building should not only be judged as a "living machine",but also be vital and can express local conditions, customs of a city or a country, or express a kind of attitude towards life, which was exactly the direction of architecture development. As a result, they broke the limitations of traditional space, and no longer used a three-dimensional orthogonal coordinate as the template of architectural space,but developed various forms of space instead. Each form has its own rules. To create a beautiful space, an overall consideration of various factors, namely environment, culture,urban structure and so on is needed. The composition of heterogeneous space and the generation type of space form should also be taken into consideration.However, space form diversification also brings some problems. The most prominent one is how to coordinate the relationship between form and function so as to make the form can be possibly justified. Therefore, how to properly understand the different forms of different spaces, as well as the different impacts to human activities caused by different spaces are all problems to be solved in heterogeneous space. This paper focuses on a comprehensive and systematic research of kernel formation,technique of expression and materialized form of heterogeneous space, hoping to provide a new perspective, a new thought and a new method for current architectural practice in terms of space creativity.
