Based on the background of Insensitive Munitions Technologies, the response processes and regularities of the charge with shell under the stimuli of fast cook-off were mainly researched. On that basis the effect of thermal desensitization were achieved through the research of matching law between the explosives, shell and thermal barrier.Firstly, the hypothesis and universal expression of the classical thermal initiation theory and the thermal initiation Frank-Kamenetskii model were introduced, and the finite element model of fast cook-off numerical simulation for charge with shell was established based on certain assumptions and thermal initiation models. Then according to the TG and DSC curves for the thermal decomposition of ANPyO under different heating rates, the activation energy of ANPyO was calculated with the Kissinger and Ozawa method. The fast cook-off experiments were carried out at the same time, and the results of the experiments were compared with the results of the numerical simulations. It turned out that the results of the numerical simulations were verified by the results of the experiments. Lastly, the influences of explosive parameters on the response of fast cook-off for charge with shell were researched using CFD software Fluent, and the modified correlation of ignition time about heating rates was acquired by comparing the theoretical calculation results with the simulation results of ignition time under different heating rates for ANPyO charge with shell. The fast cook-off responses of ANPyO charge with shell were compared with RDX-based charge with shell, and the influences of parameters and positions for thermal barriers on the fast cook-off responses for charge with shell were researched at the same time. It turned out that the thermal insensitivities of the charge with shell were improved by using the thermal barriers with low thermal conductivity, and the charge with thermal barrier outside the shell had better thermal insensitivities.
