Using Ground based radar to monitor the slope is a great breakthrough in the field of deformation monitoring. This paper starts with the background and significance of the slope monitoring and sum up many slope monitoring methods which are widely used with a brief description. The main research is deformation monitoring of slopes by means of IBIS and TM30.Conventional geodetic surveying in the field of slope monitoring has been developed earlier, but it is still the most widely used method, while the ground radar as a new deformation monitoring equipment, although the application is less, but there is a great potential for development. This paper introduces the Leica TM30 precision total station and IBIS-L about their relevant parameters, technological principle, process of data acquistion and processing and analyses of error sources. According to the experiment, respectively, of the two methods in the practical application of the measurement program and data acquisition is described. The emphasis of this paper is data processing and comparative analysis, Place the corner reflector evenly distributed in the monitoring area innovatively as the based of identifying monitoring points in the image of the ground based radar, by processing and analyzing the data reliability, compare two methods about the accumulative displacements of each period and three months, comparatively analyzed the indicators for measuring monitoring accuracy, through upwards research verifies the feasibility and high accuracy of ground radar in large scale, long distance and complex environment, and highlights the advantage of ground radar as a new monitoring method. At the same time, this paper summarizes the shortcomings of the ground based radar in the experiment and puts forward some suggestions in deformation monitoring.
