With the 300MW turbo-generator as an example, the effects of saturation on operational characteristics and the stator and rotor's practical dimensions and configuration on the saturated characteristics have been studied; some work on the grid division strategy considering the practical dimensions and configuration and the precision of the Nonlinear Finite Element Equation also has been studied. Then the program for calculating and analyzing turbo-generaors' steady characteristics has been compiled and devised. The main results of research in the paper are :1. The stator and rotor's practical dimensions and configuration will change the turbo-generator's magnetic field, so it should be considered when the precise operational characteristics and parameters are needed and calculated.2. The stator and rotor's practical dimensions and configuration do great to the grid division strategy. If precise results are needed, the division dense of the calculated area should be increased radially and circumferentially. 3. The program for calculating and analyzing turbogenerators' steady characteristics has been compiled and devised.1) Taking the stator and rotor's practical dimensions and configuration into account, more grids used in the grid division, so the results will more reliable and with high precision.2) The program is fit for different turbogenerators . So it can be used for a wide range.3) The block structure is used in the program. It can be convenient to get into any one of the subroutines to calculate the parameters. What's more, the changes of the magnetic field with the rotor's rotation can be visualized, and with the visual magnetic field further research can be done .4. On the basis of the methods for Nonlinear Finite-Element Equation by the time being, through a number of calculations and studies, the best combination of precise results and the calculating time is decided from the grid division strategy and the precision of the Nonlinear Finite-Element Equation. 5. The operation and load characteristics of 300MW turbogenerator are calculated and studied.
