The paper mainly studies general assembly simulation , path plan, path process and something related under the environment of Pro/ENGINEER software. The main goal is to show the whole assembly process of the product by means of visualization, to test the assembly capability by means of assembly sequence and path planing via interaction of human and computer, assembly collision detecting and so on, automatical generating the assembly path , so we can obtain information feedback for product redesign. As a result, shortening the cycle of product designFirst, the paper reviews thoroughly the literature and newly development on assembly simulation, top-down design, assembly modeling and assembly sequence planing at home and abroad . Based on them , It sketchily describes the thoughts and methods of the developing of the genaral assembly simulation software, which is the prototype of software developed upon the paper. The software is to simulate the assembly process of the product, in which the assembly model described by hierarchical tree is the fundamental and the result of the assembly sequence and path planing by means of disassembly via input through human and computer interactionProper assembly modeling is the base of the whole assembly simulation system software. By programming developed by user, the paper detailedly researches the expressing method and identifying method of the component in the hierarchy assembly model, the description of three Dimension position and orientation of the components in the product, and topological graph of mating relationship among the components. All these lay a solid foundation for the following research on assembly sequence and path planing and assembly process simulating.Second, the research on both assembly planing and assembly processsimulciting, which is based on the layout of the two- level gear reduce box , takeing the descriptions of motion state and 3D transformation matrix as its basal principle. It is supposed that the assembly and the disassembly are a pair of reversible operations, so assembly planing can use the method of disassembly. Disassembly sequence and path inputed via human and people interaction are computed and processed in the system, after the disassembly being checked to be feasible by real-time disassembly simulating and real-time collision detecting, the disassembly sequence and path are reversed to assembly sequence and path and assembly planing is completed. Assembly process simulation takes the assembly sequence and path planed in assembly planing or data initialized throuly input by hand at the startup of the system, displaying the 3D position of the components continuously to simulate the process of assembly, the output of the simultion are saved by files , it can be used by CAPP(computer aided process plan). Finally, a conclusion is given, and the direction for the future research is put forward.
