Postgraduate Zeng ChangyangSupervisor Assoc.Prof. Shu XingpingCold-formed purlins have a high load carrying capacity because of their optimized cross-section and the stabilizing effect of the sheeting. The purlin-sheeting have been the subject of numerous theoretical and experimental investigations over the past four decades, but the complexity of the systems has led to great difficulty in developing a perfect and general model. The theoretical analysis and experimental research on Behavior of simply supported purlins which screw-connected to corrugated sheeting was conducted under wind uplift loading. The stability bearing capacity of purlin was calculated by formulas of two criterion and some design manual. Some comments on the design of purlin are proposed after comparing the results, including the investigation result of this paper. The conclusions will improve and simplify the design methods in the future.r The theoretical analysis ignored the distortion of the section and worked out theequations of displacement, loading capacity by means of energy method. The equations provide accurate by the results of tests and computation. During the full scale model comprising an area of 28 m2 not only the conventional loading capacity tests were taken but also the rotational restraint was tested, which will provide valuable data to some similar structure members design. The results of the experiments are willing to be a reference to the future modification of specifications. This paper is also written to provide some evidence for the application of certain BHP steel products.
