With the rapid development of society and economy, compound foundation is more and more widely used in civil engineering in our country. The deformation behavior of compound foundation is studied by using 3-D FEM program for the development of the compound foundation.Firstly, the theory of compound foundation and pile foundation are summarized in this paper. The finite element, displacement models and computational program are introduced, then how such factors as the stiffness of pile, the ratio of length and radius of the pile & replacement ratio influence the settlement of compound foundation are analyzed. There has the best modulus of pile, the best of the length & replacement ratio and some data have been obtained. Furthermore, how the cushion affects the compound foundation's mechanical characteristic and its effect in optimum design are studied.Finally, a field static load test of a engineering case is introduced and the test results and the calculation results are compared. The results show that the method applied to the compound foundation is feasible.
