In this thesis, some general rules of the stability of earth darns and dykes on soft foundation were studied by the finite element method, some significant conclusions and advises were recommended. This study item was regarded with Daluhu reservoir project For static condition, improved slip circle method and slip circle method were used to analyze the effect of soft interlayer on the stability of the dams and dykes, and sum up when we must use improved slip circle method to calculate the stability of the dams and dykes At the same time, according to optimization method,a new method-pattern search method which didn't need the range of the center-was putted forward to search the most dangerous slip surface, and was compared with the bisection method,Plastic zone developing laws of soft foundation were studied by the two-dimension non-linear finite element method What's more, the back-pressure method's effect was compared with the lessening-gradient method's effect, the result was that the back-pressure method's effect was better Geocomposite' reinforcing effect on the darns and dykes on soft foundation was also analyzedImproved slip circle method slip circle method and plastic stability method were used to determine the maximum dam height Several conditions were considered for the maximum dam height determination, these valuable conditions were available for design of the dams and dykes For dynamic condition,a new method which used finite element method was brought out to analyze the stability of the dams and dykes Earthquake's effect on the stability of the dams and dykes and plastic zone developing laws of soft foundation were studied by the finite element method At the same time, the back-pressure method's effect was compared with the lessening-gradient method's effect in the dynamic condition, the result was same with the result in the static condition.
