The effect of dead-time on inverter output voltage is studied in this paper .The effect of power factor depth of modulation and frequency ratio on the inverter output voltage is also studied with the existing of dead-time. The piecewise linear model of inverter is given based on dead-time and the effectiveness of the piecewise linear model is analyzed.The dead time causes a reduction in the fundamental component of the output voltage. Furthermore, in variable speed drive system the reduction in fundamental voltage causes a reduction in the torque. Methods of compensation for dead time are proposed and investigated in this paper and it is shown that its effects can be eliminated.Tests with a compensated variable speed drive,using an inverter fed induction motor,demonstrate that the torque perturbations at a gear change are now negligible.Matlab simulation is also used to prove the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
