The reciprocating pump valve is one of the weakest components of the reciprocating pump, its inferior operating life blocks the implement and appliance of some of the technics, such as drill and pick , press and crack in oil field seriously. So analysis and research to the reciprocating pump valve's invalidation mechanism, and more, optimization of the valve's structural parameter, are so important to the advancing research work of the pump valve and the improvement of the pump valve's operating life.After the research and analysis to the invalidation form and mechanism of the valve, we conclude that the abrasion of the abrasive stuff is the basic reason of the massive material's peeling on the upper edge of the seal ring , but not the main reason which leads the whole pump valve system to be invalid. The main reason is fatigue abrasion.Based on the analysis on all kinds of load while the pump valve is working, we establish the corresponding mechanical model. In this paper, the 8-node quadrangle equal-parameter ring cell whose precision is relatively high, is used to solve the problem effectively, since the its structure and load are comparatively complex.In order to improve the operating life of prick valve of reciprocating pump, the mathematical model is established for its structural optimization design, in which the maximum comprehensive stress on the surface of the valve is taken as an objective function, and the restrain conditions are fixed by conditions of non-impact on the pump valve, the velocity of the liquid in the valve gap and the dimension. This mathematical planning problem is non-linear one. In view of its features, we use sequence quadratic programming planning to solve the problem effectively, in which convergence carries through fast and the stability is fine.The computer software of optimization design to the prick valve of reciprocating pump is complied. By using the software, the structure of the valve of the 3-vat, single-function drilling pump whose type is SL3NB-1300A, is optimized. Result shows that, the maximum comprehensive stress of the valve body is decreased by 12.7%, and of the valve seat is 3.8%. These show that the force bearing conditions of the pump valve improves a lot after optimization.
