The paper puts forward a set of theoretic means and emulational method of analyzing the problem of lower power factor and harmonic interfere of type-SS electric locomotive running on the electric railway of our country, based on discussing development and application of modern power factor compensation technique.In allusion to representative electric locomotive main circuit configuration and factual going, establishing main circuit math model and finding the model coefficient by repeating way, using FFT to calculate harmonic current in main circuit and influence on power factor. PFC is designed and method of its preferences is provided; field testing and emulational analyzing show its validity. In order to resolve power factor and harmonic in reason by the cooperation of transformer substation and locomotive, bringing forward a quantitative calculation method of the relation of PTF in transformer substation and PFC on the locomotive. The paper analyzes on-off fundament and manipulation, safeguard, limiting condition, failure causes and resolvents about PFC.
