The paper brings forward a plan of improved single-terminal fault location algorithm based on combined symmetrical component method and quadratic equation method , aiming at the middle and short 110kv,220kv overhead HV transmission line. This plan can better increase the accuracy of fault location than traditional plan. The digital simulation proves that the algorithm is not effected by the load flow and the transition resistor, and the error of calculation is within 1% in the circumstances of very high transition resistor ground short circuit. Also the paper realizes the plan through a chip microprocessor of 80C196KC and explains the software and hardware of it in detail.
