The precise location of high-voltage transmission line fault is of great significance and practical engineering value. With the development of computer communication technology and the wide application of microcomputer-based protection devices with electric power system, it is possible to locate high-voltage transmission line faults precisely.Based on studying of a great deal of references, the paper brief introduced forming power circuit model and some technique of signal sampling. In this paper, diversified fault location algorithms are summarized:According to the principles of algorithms, all the existing fault location methods for HV transmission lines can be classified into two main types:fault analytical location and traveling waves location; Based on the analysis and comparison of each algorithm; the corresponding merits and application limitations are presented. Finally, the prospects in the research and application of fault location algorithms are described.
