The use of intermediate stiffeners in the compression plate may significantly increase elastic buckling stress and ultimate capacity of the plate. However, the behavior of the plate with intermediate stiffeners would be complicated. The discrete stiffener solution and orthotropic plate solution are used for analyzing the buckling behavior of intermediately stiffened plates theoretically in this paper. Thus, closed-form solution of critical buckling stress and required adequate stiffening rigidity of the stiffener is obtained. A program finite strip analysis model is formed and finite strip computer software is also made in this paper. The buckling behaviors of plates with flat-hat intermediate stiffener are analyzed by employing finite strip method. The effects for buckling stress of the changes of the stiffener rigidity, shape, dimension, as well as its location are analyzed in this thesis. On the basis of all these analyze, a reasonable dimension limitation for the flat-hat intermediate stiffener is given, in order to provide reference for designs and the revising of design specification.
