Collapse mechanism of bolt-angle connections under static load is studied, and expression of angle section based on the analytic result is presentedDouble angle beam-to-colunm connections welded to the beam web and bolted to the column flange are considered. The behavior of the connections is very complex.- stress distributioru the ascertainment of rotantion center> nonlinear behavior of angle and the interaction between angle and bolt, and so on. Those make the real behavior of double angle connections difficult to analyse. The paper applies 3D nonlinear (material, geometry and contact) ANSYS finite element method to analyze the behavior of connections under static load. Contact elements are set between angle and conlumn flange, bolt heads (nuts) and neighborhood plane, bolt bar and hole. The method can not only simulate comprehensively the collapse process of bolt-angle connect ions, but also take into account integratedly the effect of all kind of factors. After verification of the result of ANSYS finite element analyse and the result of experimentation , the effect of various parameters has been considered, including the friction coefficient, pretension force of bolts, diameter and distinction of bolt, the bolt gage distance, arrangement of bolt, the thickness, lenth, material properties of angle, the depth and span of the beam, the thickness of column flange, and so on. Expression of angle section based on the result of ANSYS finite element analyse is presented at last, which provide the basis for the design of bolt- Angle beam-to-column Connection.
