For farther exploring the application of Electrorheological(ER) technology on hydraulic control system, this paper takes theoretical and practical study on ER valves and ER valve-control system by contrast with traditional hydraulic valve-control system.An ER valve-control system is designed theoretically. It's components, especially ER fluids and ER valves, which are different with components of traditional hydraulic valve-control system, are discussed and analyzed. The requirements for ER fluids 's substitution to traditional hydraulic oil are brought forward. Single ER valve's control equation is derivedTwo mathematic models of ER valve-cylinder actuator is constructed according to control methods of ER valve-cylinder. And a position control system based on ER valve-bridge actuator is simulated. The result shows that the system has good dynamic performance. The experiment's instruments for ER valve are discussed and analyzed. A peristaltic pump is introduced to feed ER fluids, and an visual program for data acquisition is wrote. Base on the condition of experiment, a test on ER valve is taken, and practical results are in agreement with theoretical results.
