The moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger consists of moderate-temperature heat pipes and low-temperature heat pipes. As a kind of heat pipe heat exchangers, the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger has not only the merits that common heat pipe heat exchangers possess, but also its own unique virtues, so it has a bright prospect for application. The moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger can be used in some particular occasions such as recovery of moderate-temperature waste heat and heating of moderate-temperature clean gas. However, the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger is still in its early stage. There are still many flaws that need to be improved for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger. In this paper, simulation calculation and optimum design for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger were chiefly discussed.On the basis of theoretical analysis and literature search, the author put forward a method of simulation calculation for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger and accomplished it by using a discrete calculation model, employing transfer and accomplished it by using a discrete calculation model, employing transfer units (?-MTU) method and iteration.On the basis of two design methods for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger, the author established an optimum design model for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger, and solved the model by employing the exhaustion method. To accelerate the solution, the relations among design variables and the influence of each design variable on heat transfer and pressure drop of the fluid were analyzed of each design variable on heat transfer and pressure drop of the fluid were analyzed in this paper.As the conclusion, an integrated design program for the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger was established, which improved the design method and reduced the cost of the equipment. The study of simulation optimization will promote the popularization of the moderate-temperature heat pipe heat exchanger and facilitate the failure analysis and the online diagnosis for engineers and technicians.
