Piston is the key parts of engine of tank and chariot, whose shape is convex and variable ellipse. The piston was made up of separate parts. The different part used different material. There are about two or three different materials. After the piston was machined it's external was sprayed a layer of graphite. Graphite is a kind of soft material. Because of particularity of structure and material, the piston must be measured by the non-contact method. But, at present there isn't mature technique.In the paper we adopted the laser scanning theory. Aiming at the measuring requirement of the piston, we applied the method of laser scanning of double light road. So we can design an intelligentized measuring system of high precision, high speed. In the paper we have designed the total structure and the structure of subsystem of the measuring system. Particularly, we have designed the K lens and rotating mirror of laser scanning system, and have analyzed the accurate of the system. Using the method of transforming the value of diameters to the value of coordinate, we can resolve the problem of measuring the long and short axis' positions and sizes. According to the design of the system, we have settled the non-contact measuring matter of piston of convex and variable ellipse, which has important signification for improving the performance of weapon equipment.
