In order to improve the performance of generator relay protection, it is very important to study the synchronous generator with the internal armature winding faults. When a severe fault occurred in a generator, it is required for the relay protection to trip very quickly. At this time, the generator is still in transient state, so the effect of generator transient on generator relay protection should be studied.The paper's contents involve the following aspects:1.Based on the Multi-loop Method, this paper describes the construction of a mathematical model of salient-pole synchronous generators suitable for analyzing the transient behavior of internal faults in stator windings. 2.The inductance of generator's stator windings and rotor windings are derived, using air-gap permeance method.3.Calculation of end windings leakage inductances.4.Programing of transient simulation software of salient pole synchronous generator armature winding internal faults.5.Verifing the model by comparing the simulation results with results obtained from the experiment on the analog salient-pole synchronous generator in the Tsinghua University motor laboratory.6.The laws governing the internal faults are investigated. This has provided theoretic foundation to the configuration and optimization of protection for synchronous generator with internal armature winding faults.
