Test Research On GIN Grouting Technique

As an important way of foundation treatment, grouting is one of the key technical measures to increase foundation bearing capacity and integrity, thus to enhance impermeability in the construction of hydroelectric projects. And the traditional grouting methods and techniques have many shortcomings. GIN Grouting Technique is a new grouting technique which overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional grouting methods and is now being popularized internationally.GIN is the abbreviation for Grouting Intensity Number. It is showed by the product of the final grouting pressure P (Unit: MPa) on the grouting section and the grouting volume V (Unit: L/m) on every one meter of the grouting section, which means the energy consumed on every one meter of grouting section. According to GIN method, if during the grouting construction, same energy is consumed on every grouting section, i.e. GIN keeps to be a constant, an approximately uniform impervious curtain can be obtained.By integrating with the engineering practice of curtain grouting on the right abutment of Houhe Reservoir and on the basis of field tests, researches were conducted on the establishment of grouting parameters and GINs, mix proportion of stable mortar as well as finishing standard of different GINs under certain geological condition. And after checking the grouting effects, comparison was made between GIN Grouting and the traditional grouting technique. The results of this research show that GIN Grouting, compared with the traditional grouting technique, is a kind of grouting method which can save materials, simplify techniques, increaseworking efficient and make the foundation or curtain uniform, dense and durable. Meanwhile, in GIN Grouting, it is more suitable to use computers to automatically monitor the grouting procedure, thus to reduce artificial influences and increase grouting quality.The results of this research provide experience and data for application and spread of GIN Grouting Technique and reference for further spreading GIN Grouting Technique in similar projects. It also contributes to promote modernized management of grouting projects, reduce grouting costs and increase grouting quality.
