Equipment fault diagnosis technology is a new comprehensive technology closely combining engineering and theory. Coming forth of such technology has greatly promoted the change of equipment maintenance technology in enterprises, and lowered economic loss to a great extent, so as to obtain the greatest economical efficiency. Motor fault diagnosis technology is a part of that of the equipment fault diagnosis. Large-sized D.C. motors are the key equipment in metallurgical enterprise, which have complicated structure and operating condition with faults in multiple source, non-linearity and in connection with wide range of knowledge. Therefore, on-line faults diagnosis on D.C. motors is the important point which engineers and scientists pay great concerns on. This article is to search the development and application of D.C. motor fault diagnosis technology, based on the on-line monitor and fault diagnosis on D.C. motors in Sendzimir mill of Silicon Rolling Mill in Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation.Main content described in this article is as follows:(1) The present status and trending of equipment fault diagnosis technology; (2) the composition of on-line monitor and fault diagnosis system of D.C. motors, and data acquisition system in Silicon Rolling Mill of Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation; relative knowledge of hardware and software configuration in systematic flowchart; (3) what role the sensing technology plays in monitor and fault diagnosis and how to apply; (4) through representing the development of wavelet analysis theory and knowledge, especially stressing on illustrating in feature of wavelet analysis theory and explanation of engineering, the wavelet technology, as coordinated analysis method of a signal, is gradually adopted in fault diagnosis system; At last, it discussed the set up of expert system in the diagnosis system, and obtaining & improving relative knowledge of expert system.In summary, sensing technology is a window and base to obtain varies kinds of information in monitor and fault diagnosis system of D.C motors; wavelet analysis theory is a effective mean to make time-frequency signal analysis whichis helpful for extraction of defective characterises and grasping critical factor; the set up, development and improvement of expert system is beneficial to the right diagnosis on the equipment to be made by production and technical personnel, so as to ensure safety and efficient operation of equipment.This had provided a realistic and applicable method for using such system to make timely and right fault diagnosis on D.C. motors at site in order to find hidden problems on equipment and upgrade equipment management level.
