Over the passed 20 years, with the applications of micro-processor and personal computer in the instrument and system, techniques of instrument have been raised to a new stage. In the next century, with the development of computer and technology correlated it, the instrument will develop greatly in the field of intelligent and standardization. This paper introduced how to reform a traditional spectrometer 6-6104 to an intelligent one. There are three cruces: ameliorations on the hardware of 6-6104; the drivers of A/D collector and RS-232 communication based on LabVIEW platte; the software of the intelligent spectrometer and the methods of amending errors appeared in the system. The spectrometer can be controlled under computer by using step motor, exactitude rotator and mechanical accessories, and optimized by using PIN diode and the circuits suited. It also analysis's the sources of errors in gearing and photon detecting.LabVIEW is engineering software based on the graphic virtual instruments in it. It is very easy to control the outside instruments with computer and its RS-232 serial communication, and data collectors with its Vis.After ameliorate the hardware of the spectrometer, there are many kinds of noise added to the system inevitably. They are hot-noise and disperse-noise in electron circuitry and the wavelength excursion due to the grating turning. We used time-domain averaging method and intelligent center searching method to clear up the noises. The result shows, after the ameliorating, the spectrometer 6-6104 can be used conveniently, and it can work stably, and the errors has controlled in the minimum. Its differentiate rate and light power collecting sensitivity approached the guideline of top grade spectrometers but its cost was less than the top grade spectrometers.
