This paper is combined with the project of research of underwater acoustic network technology.First, we study and research existing UAN and its protocols at home and abroad. And we do them abroad in deep-going way. On the basis of this, we researches design and simulation of UAN's protocols and designs a simple practical effective UAN's protocols.To determine the network topology is the first step in designing UAN. The paper analyzed a simple large-scale system to determine relaying in terms of minimizing energy consumption.At network layer , an initialization algorithm based polling is researched to establish preliminary connections autonomously . And a genetic algorithm based optimization is used to obtain a routing tree that results in minimum energy consumption. Also, at network layer we simply analyzed and compared four routing protocols for UAN, obtain the useful conclusions.With the characteristics of the underwater acoustic channel , media access control protocols at data link layer adopt the MACA protocol which uses RTS-CTS exchange to solve the hidden and exposed situation and automatically control power. At data link layer, we also researched the error control and the flow control protocols and its algorithms , and analyzed quantitatively their performance. In UAN, the data link layer protocols use the simplest and basic stop-and-wait protocol and met UAN's initial design requirements.Finally we design and simulate a data link layer protocol suitable for underwater acoustic channel.
