In the latest 10 years, tall buildings are largely built, but conventional method prescribed by current codes has some problem, that is the internal force of structure is different of the practical structure. Therefore, it is no time to delay that refining the design method of tall buildings. In this paper, tall frame and layered soil are treated as a single continuous system and an interactive analysis method is presented using finite element method and finite layer method. The settlement of foundation and the internal force of the frame are calculated with different stiffness of the superstructure. Comparing with the conventional method, interactive method is more security and economy to design tall frame structure. In the past, the superstructure was considered as a single element whose bottom was fixed on the foundation. Apparently this approximately approach was unsuitable well for the real structure, so the design was insecurity or diseconomy. In the analysis of this paper, tall frame is divided into space beam element, layered foundation is divided into finite layer, and the stiffness of a single pile is determined by Q-s curve. Finally, based on the principle of interaction between soil and structure, the program for tall frame and pile interactive analysis has been coded in C++ Builder. This program aided by TAT, considering the change of beam height, analyzes a tall frame on two different pile foundations. Some interesting results, which may be useful hi practical design, are obtained.
